Planning a Carnegie Hall Wedding: The Parts Guests Never See
Carnegie Hall is about as New York as a wedding gets. When this couple asked me to plan and design their day there, I knew exactly who I wanted beside me: a handful of vendors I trust completely, and a venue team I'd worked with before.
It rained from morning to night. That ruled out the portraits we'd planned on the streets of Midtown, which stung, but the weather gave the day a softness of its own. Grey light through tall windows, umbrellas at the door, everyone arriving a little breathless and glad to be inside. I'll take that over a flat blue sky more often than you'd think.

We arrived early. I always do, even at venues I know well, and I aim for at least 45 minutes before call time. Something has usually shifted since the last event: a new loading procedure, a fixture that's been moved, a staff change. Better to find it with time to spare. At Carnegie Hall, the team makes that part easy. They're exacting, unflappable, and genuinely invested in getting the details right, which is rarer than it should be.
The ceremony and reception shared one room, so the real test came during cocktail hour. While guests went downstairs for drinks and passed canapés, my team and every vendor on the floor had about 90 minutes to turn a ceremony space into a dinner. Watching that happen is one of my favorite parts of the job: florists, lighting, rentals, catering, each moving at full speed, no one in anyone else's way, and a room that looks like it was always meant to be set for dinner by the time the doors open.
