Brooklyn Botanic Garden had been on my list for years. When a couple finally asked me to plan and design their wedding there, I didn't need to think about it.What made the day matter was the trust. The morning started early at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, where the bride and her bridesmaids were getting ready. My job there is simple: make sure no one needs anything and the room stays calm. Then we went to the groom and his groomsmen to confirm they were set. Only then did we head to the Garden.
Setup is where the clock becomes real. We had hours, not days, and one rule on top of everything else: the couple would not see each other before the ceremony. That meant managing timing, routes, and who was standing where all afternoon. There were a few close calls, and I won't pretend otherwise. But they didn't see each other until the moment they were supposed to, and at the end of the night they told me it was exactly the day they wanted.
